SCYM with the BBC Philharmonic

The six finalists in the 2008 Young Composer of the year competition, Danielle Oakes, Madeleine Shackleton, Holly Davies, Edgar Thompson, Rhianne Abberley, and Neil Raisbeck, (plus 4 lucky adults), were invited to the BBC Studios in Manchester on April 15th, to be present at a live broadcast given by the BBC Philharmonic Orchestra.

The programme, which included performances by the orchestra, a work for solo violin and orchestra, and a piano solo played by the prize-winning pianist Eduard Kunz, also included interviews with eminent musicians.

Everyone enjoyed the day enormously, and for some of the younger ones our visit to studio 7 was the first time they had been to an orchestral concert of any kind. All had something to eat at Piccadilly station before catching the train home, tired but happy.
