Ruskin Sports College Concert – 24/04/2008

The third annual concert at Ruskin School took place on April 24th, and included the award ceremony and presentation of the prizes for the Young Composer of the Year award. The concert included performers from 5 to 16 years of age from 13 different schools, and a wide variety of music was performed on 12 different instruments. There was just one singer who gave a lovely performance of "The bare necessities".

The winner of the senior composer of the year award was Neil Raisbeck with a piece for brass quintet called, "Brass does Vienna", and Madeleine Shackleton won the junior prize with a descriptive piece entitled "School morning rackett". The awards were presented by his worship the Mayor of Crewe and Nantwich Councillor Maurice Jones.

The standard of performers was remarkably high, and despite some nervous moments backstage, all the young performers played with great style and entertained the audience to a wonderful evening of splendid music making. Lots of thanks to everyone at Ruskin, especially the head teacher Mr Phil Mottershead, and also to our guest adjudicator Mr Colin Bayliss.
