Ruskin Sports College Concert – 30/04/2009

The fourth annual concert and awards evening took place at Ruskin Sports and Languages College on April 30th.

There was a wonderful mix of musical styles played by young musicians from the age of 6 to 17 yrs.

In all 33 children took part representing 14 different Schools in the area playing 10 different instruments, many performing in front of a large audience for the first time.

The Mayor of Cheshire East, Councillor Margaret Simon presented the awards to the winners of the Young Composer of the Year competition which this year had two new categories.

The winners were:-

Best Jazz piece - Edgar Thompson
Best Junior – Madeleine Shackleton
Best New Entry – Laura Stubbs
Best Senior & winner of the title;
"Young Composer of the Year" - Leo Geyer

Thanks to the staff at Ruskin, and in particular the Head Teacher Mr Mottershead who acted as M.C. for the evening, the concert was a huge success enjoyed by performers and audience alike.
