2009 Competition Rules

The composer can either;

  • Write a piece of music for one melodic instrument plus accompaniment, or
  • Write a piece of music for a wind ensemble consisting of a minimum of 3 and a maximum of 7 instruments with optional percussion.

These rules apply to either choice.

  1. The piece must NOT exceed 5 minutes in length.
  2. The work must be submitted as a score on manuscript paper.
  3. The piece must be wholly the work of the named composer, and the composer must sign his or her work to that effect.
  4. Copyright will belong to the composer.
  5. The closing date is 1st February 2009

Additional Rules for the wind esemble.

Instruments to be taken from the following list;

BRASS
Cornet, Trumpet, Flugelhorn, Eb Horn, Trombone, Baritone, Euphonium, Bass.

WOODWIND
Flute, Clarinet, Recorder, Alto and Tenor Saxophone.

  1. Any number and any combination of the above list may be used as long as the limit of 7 instruments is adhered to.
  2. Transposing instruments must be correctly notated.

An additional computerised audio version may be included with the score - this is purely optional.
